Issues that Matter

Serving and Making Space for All Members

One of Desirée's priorities is creating a space for all members to share their concerns and receive support from MTS. She has shown this through work she has done with members in rural communities, Francophone members, members who have recently arrived from other countries, and folx in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community through many initiatives over the years.

Health and Safety for Members Everyday

Whether it be mental health in the workplace, preventing violence in the classroom, or other safety issues, Desirée believes that keeping members safe should be a top priority. This can be achieved by increased advocacy for stronger legislation and supports, educating members and WSH committees around their rights and responsibilities, and supporting members when they are facing these types of challenges.

Continuing Political Initiatives

The provincial government changed in October, but the work continues. With the upcoming teacher registry, commissionner, and other changes stemming from the Bill 35 legislation, advocacy for teachers in Manitoba needs to continue as our profession is facing unprecedented changes. Desirée has a long history of political advocacy and hopes she will be able to put her abilities to work as a member of the Provincial Executive.
